Frequently Asked Questions
Families are required to attend an Enrollment Information Meeting where they will learn about our unique program and have an opportunity to ask questions and tour the building. When your student is invited to enroll, we will reach out with links to registration forms and connect you with your Education Specialist who will help you get signed up for classes and order your home study curriculum.
Anyone interested in enrolling at Alliance Charter Academy is required to attend an 'Enrollment Information Meeting' where you will learn more about our program and get answers to your questions. ACA is a unique homeschool hybrid program and it is important for you to have information to determine if our charter school is the right fit. Visit the 'Admissions' page for a link to register for an upcoming Information Meeting.
Each student is required to meet with their Education Specialist (ES) for one hour each week. Students will bring their week's schoolwork with them to the meeting. Students grades K-8 will be studying a minimum of six courses per year. Students grades 9-12 will accumulate credits toward graduation at the rate of 6.5 credits per year for a total of 26 credits for a diploma.
ACA is a homeschool hybrid model. Parents will act as Learning Guides for their student. Our Educational Specialists help parents plan learning strategies to meet the goals for their children.
Parents are expected to actively support their students Personalized Learning Plan by being in close contact with the ES, making sure home studies and class homework is completed on time, and for older students, tracking their student's progress regularly through ParentVue.
If enrolling in on-site classes, parents of students grades K-3 are required to be in class with their students. Parents of grade 4-5 students are not required to be physically in classes but must remain on the ACA campus during classes. Older students can be on-site without an adult as long as they are demonstrating responsible behavior. Students may not be on campus without an adult if they are not enrolled in a class.
ACA is an open, co-op style campus and student monitoring is the responsibility of parents.
Each student at ACA is assigned an Education Specialist (licensed teacher) who will meet with the parent and student weekly. The ES assists with course requests, curriculum purchases, educational guidance, assessments and tutoring. The ES support and relationship are very valuable and make ACA the unique program it is!
Generally, elective classes have minimum to no homework requirements. Music classes have expectations for practice time. Core classes generally do have required homework. Since no class meets more than twice a week, the balance of core class hours must be completed as home studies so be sure to consider this when choosing classes.
Yes, depending on available space, students may be called in off the waitlist to join at various times throughout the year. For high school students earning credits, it's advised that you do not leave your current school unless it is the end of a grading period so that you do not lose out on transcribed credits.
Yes, the ACE (Alliance College Experience) program provides an opportunity for qualified students in grades 11-12 to experience more academically challenging coursework and to begin earning college credit while still enrolled in high school. We partner with Clackamas Community College and Portland Community College for the ACE program. There is an ACE Information meeting each spring. Let your ES know if you are interested in enrolling in this program.
If you are interested in enrolling at ACA, we recommend that you register for an Enrollment Information Meeting right away.
ACA has an enrollment 'cap' set by our sponsors, Oregon City School District, of 425 students. Since we are fully enrolled at 425 at this time, state law requires that we rank order of enrollment by lottery. This law requires that we enroll students in this order:
Current Students
Siblings of Current Students
New Students
Students residing within the Oregon City School District receive priority
Students residing outside of Oregon City are invited in when no OC students remain on the list
Typically, students who join the wait list by early July are invited in for the upcoming school year.
