Director's Letter November 1, 2024

Dear ACA Community,

Well wasn’t that a fun week? Thank you Student Government for organizing ‘Spirit Week’ and for all of the great participation by students and staff! There were lots of laughs and fun surprises each day. Thank you to Jana Holland for helping to post pictures of the festivities on the ACA Facebook page. If you have photos that you are willing to share online, you can email them to SocialMedia@aca.k12.or.us

Everyone, give yourselves a pat on the back for putting your best foot forward during Wednesday’s visit from the Oregon Department of Education. They loved our school! (Of Course!) To start off, we toured the 10:00 am classes and the ES rooms. Then we had a great conversation about how our school works, the uniqueness of the ACA model, and the challenge of operating such an enriching program within the limits of charter school funding. At 11:30, our guests asked if they could tour classes again to see more of our awesome teachers and classes in action. To wrap up the day, two of our ACA Board members joined us for lunch and more conversation. It was a great day of building new relationships that will be valuable to us moving forward! Thanks everyone!

Our gifted Sinfonietta and Concert Orchestras played at the Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on Saturday night. It was an amazing experience for the students! They looked sharp, played beautifully, and represented ACA in the best possible light. Thank you Mrs Trobaugh and Mr Edson for organizing and conducting the show! And the orchestra excitement continues when our Symphony plays at the televised District Board Meeting on Monday, November 4th at 7:00pm.  Here is the link to the OC District YouTube channel to watch. OC School Board Info The meeting is held at Clackamas Community College in Roger Rook Hall if you would like to attend in person. Go to the link above and scroll down to see the CCC map. Thank you, Mr. Edson and Symphony students, for representing ACA!

Speaking of our music department, they are once again offering to help you "Deck your

Doors" for the Holidays.  Beautiful wreaths from Willamette Evergreen are on sale 'til November 11th.  Get your orders in to a music teacher or the school office.  Proceeds help the music department purchase various concert equipment and department-wide materials that all the classes can share. Wreaths will be ready for pick up during Concert weekend, December 5-7, in the school cafeteria.

The Lost and Found in the Cafeteria is outgrowing the space. There are over 50 sweatshirts and lots of nice water bottles. Lots of sweatshirts get left on the stage every week after P.E. classes and lunchtime basketball. Please check the Lost and Found soon and claim your items. All unclaimed items will be donated to charity over Thanksgiving break.

Does anyone have a playground ball or two that they would be willing to donate to ACA? GaGa Ball, Four Square, and Kick Ball are all going strong during lunch. PTO purchased a nice outdoor ball cage for storage. It would be great to fill it with balls for the kids!

You may have noticed that we have been a little short-staffed in the custodian department. Like last week, we may not have very many hours of help for the next week or two. Please pick up after yourselves and families and if you have a bit of time there are always surfaces and microwaves to wipe down, floors to sweep, carpets to vacuum, and anything else you see that would be helpful. Thank you for lending a hand!

Tonight is the Harvest Dance and Haunted House for grades 6-12. If you didn’t pre purchase admission, you can still show up tonight and get in for $8 cash or check. This event is for ACA students only, no guests this time. Parents are welcome to come and help!

Our amazing PTO and volunteers have so many fun things to share coming up in the next three weeks. Mark your calendars!
