Director's Letter October 11, 2024

Dear ACA Community,

Our Licensed Staff gathered for Professional Development today and spent a great day sharing and learning from each other. Every minute of the agenda was focused on ACA’s mission to serve our students. We talked about student supports, interventions, health and safety, goals, graduation, and the importance of our Mission. Everyone took a ‘True Colors’ personality quiz that ESes will share with students in the coming weeks. It was a positive, uplifting day of learning from each other. Our staff is simply wonderful, and I hope we never take our innovative, caring ESes, Specialists, and Teachers for granted!

There is an ‘Alliance’ between our stellar staff and involved parents in supporting ACA’s students. Our model works!  A recent article in the Oregon City Newspaper acknowledged the fact that ACA students are flying high and outperforming the state and Oregon City School District at nearly every grade level. Well done ACA!! LINK TO ARTICLE

One of the special people at ACA who supports our students, Rosemary Buczowski, is organizing a valuable opportunity for everyone, staff and parents, to attend a special event on November 15th from 8:30 to 12:30. The Science of Reading seminar is coming to ACA! Learn from professional Barbara Steinberg how the brain learns to read and learn strategies and  supports for all readers. We want any interested staff and our community of Home Educators to join us. Childcare will be provided. Here is the link to the  flier and please use this link to register. Thank you Mrs. B!

The first week of Clubs went off without a hitch! Thanks to Meg Snyder for pulling all the pieces together, making for a successful launch. If you didn’t get a chance to sign up for a club and would like to, talk to your ES. The bulletin board at the top of the north staircase will show which clubs meet each day of the week. It’s going to be fun!

If you are new to ACA, you’ll want to make plans to attend Spooky Science and Mad Math presented by our own Science and Math Departments on October 24th. It’s a frightfully good time and everyone is invited! And to make the afternoon even more fun, PTO is hosting Trunk or Treat in the lower parking lot. PTO just needs three more decorated trunks. The sign up form is HERE

Mr. Toth’s Woodworking classes would LOVE to receive donations of wood, tools, and gift cards.

Charter school funding is tight, yet we want to give our students the best possible experience. Please see the flier below for details and what Mr. Toth’s classes need and how to make arrangements for delivery.

Special thanks to parent Lisa Boyd and ES Darla Hall for arranging some fun outings in the near future! Mark your calendars for next Friday, October 18, to visit the Gilbert House Children’s Museum in Salem, Meet there (116 Marion St NE, Salem, OR 97301) at 10:00. There is a riverfront park nearby to eat a picnic lunch (bring your own food, drinks, necessities, etc.).  Gilbert House website The optimal age group for this experience is 2-10 years old but everyone is welcome! Creative learning exhibits include: Main Street, Salem Station, Forest Friends Toddler Room, Color Motion Images, Aerodynamics, Farm-to-Table, Healthy Body, Vet Clinic, Green Screen Tech, Sensory Portal, Life-size Building Blocks, Fort Building Room, Engineering Studio, Bubble Factory, and an amazing Open Air Playground. IMPORTANT INFO: Strollers are not allowed into the exhibits (for space reasons). No food or drinks allowed inside! $14 per person (it's possible for groups of 10 to get a discount). Adults must stay with children at all times (no unattended play). It takes about 1 hour to drive there from Oregon City.

Then one week later, on Friday, October 25, ACA’s Sunshine Committee is inviting all families and staff for a fun afternoon at Leipold Farms Pumpkin Patch, 14050 SE Richey Road in Boring. The group price is $12 per person, regularly $15-20. Please bring CASH ONLY and meet at the front gate at 12:15pm. We will pay as a group. Our reservation is 12:30-2:30 and includes a free small pumpkin. https://liepoldfarms.com/fall-festival-2024/ Thank you for organizing these fun adventures!

Pizza Thursdays are going great! Thank you to the volunteers who are making it happen! Pizza Pre-Orders can be made at the following link as well as in person at the PTO desk. Be sure to place an order for the number of slices you want by 4:00pm each Tuesday. Then remember to bring your cash or check on Thursday. Here is the link to order! PIZZA ORDERS

Coffee Corner is still in need of volunteer cashiers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday afternoons. If you have an hour or two to give, please sign up to take a shift. It would be sad if the Coffee Corner has to close at 12:30 those days.  COFFEE CORNER SIGN UP

We have more info for our next FUNdraiser, Cards For A Cause! Please share with friends and family. Huge thanks to ACA parent and Rep from PaperPie Learning, Katie Coyle, for donating her proceeds to us! These beautiful greeting cards come in various themed boxes, and cost $30 per box- which is $1 per card. Our PTO will receive $16 from every box purchased! Orders start this Monday 10/14 and go through 11/7. Orders can be picked up at ACA beginning on 11/18. HERE is a link to the order form, and HERE is a link to view a video showing the different options. These cards really come in handy for holidays and special occasions over the year!

In case you missed it last week, now is the time to register to be a vendor at ACA’s Holiday Bazaar. Students are encouraged to share their entrepreneurial endeavors! Register before November 21st in order to join us December 13 & 14. Get your applications at the PTO desk in the cafeteria or find it on the Bazaar website. REGISTER HERE

Gentle Rule Reminder: Middle and High School students are not permitted to be on campus with a gap in their schedule. Please make a plan with your student’s ES to sign them up in Study Hall or as a TA for a younger class, or make sure that you, or another responsible adult, is overseeing your student’s spare time.

Thank you for reading to the end…lots of great plans are in the works!

Remember to check the calendar on our website often! AllianceCharterAcademy.org

Thank you for being part of the ACA family, and have a wonderful weekend!

Go Eagles,
