Director's Letter October 4, 2024

Dear ACA Community,

Welcome to October, ACA! There have been so many beautiful weather days as we launch into fall. The GaGa Ball pit and Four Square courts have been very active at lunchtime, and all the outdoor tables are being used. The interior of the building has finally cooled off and we will have to fire up the boiler soon.

The weather is changing just in time for Clubs to start next week! Thanks to the students who had great ideas, and the staff and parents who agreed to be sponsors, we are able to run 18 lunchtime and after school clubs. If you didn’t get a chance to sign up for a club and would like to, talk to your ES. The bulletin board at the top of the north staircase will show which clubs meet each day of the week. It’s going to be fun!

Dr. Dayle Spitzer, Oregon City School District’s Superintendent, made a surprise visit to ACA on Thursday. She toured the building and got to peek into some classrooms. As she was leaving she noticed the Club sign up table and was very impressed with all the great opportunities our students will have to connect and share interests. After she left I had the thought that we could have a drop in visitor anytime and they are always impressed by the awesome staff and kids doing cool things all across the campus! And bonus, there are cute babies to smile at too!

One of the funnest days at ACA is coming up October 24th! Spooky Science and Mad Math presented by our own Science and Math Departments is not to be missed! And to make the afternoon even more fun, PTO is hosting Trunk or Treat in the lower parking lot. It would be wonderful if a few more people could sign up for trunks! The sign up form is HERE

And thank you to all the parents who signed up to help on School Portrait days, October 15th and 16th! We would love to get as many student photos as possible for the Yearbook, so even if you don’t plan to purchase photos, please take a minute and get photos taken. Our photographer, Stephanie Young, is so talented and gets the best smiles!

If you ever take a photo of your child schooling, whether at ACA or at home, and you wouldn't mind sharing it for use in ACA promotional materials or media posts, please email the photo to SocialMedia@aca.k12.or.us We really do have the most amazing kids!

Pizza Thursdays went off without a hitch yesterday! Pizza Pre-Orders can be made at the following link as well as in person at the PTO desk. Be sure to order pizza by 4:00pm each Tuesday for pickup on Thursday. Here is the link to order! PIZZA ORDERS

Coffee Corner in the cafeteria is as popular as ever! If you have an hour or two to give in the afternoons, please sign up to take a shift as cashier. This volunteer list is getting close to being full!  COFFEE CORNER SIGN UP

Thank you to ACA parent and Beadlock Coffee Company’s owner Andy Catts for coming in on Monday to grind and brew samples of his delicious coffee. He created a blend to honor ACA called ‘Eagle Eye’. Check out Beadlock’s offerings for sale at the Coffee Corner. For each bag sold, our PTO gets to keep $8.00 to support their projects and fun events!

PTO’s next fundraiser will be ‘Cards for a Cause’ beginning October 14. More information is coming soon!

Shout out to student Rosalyn Hagee-Kidwell who has been dropping off free samples of her delicious baked goods at the Coffee Corner all week! Rosalyn is an extraordinary baker, and so generous to share her talent with the community. Thank you Rosalyn!

Gentle Rule Reminder(s): Please do not prop open any exterior doors. We’re finding little rocks and bark chips being used to keep doors from latching. Our security system will not arm when doors are propped and this is a safety concern for a stranger entering the building as well. Thank you for your help with this!

Our next Enrollment Information Meeting will be held on October 8th at 6:00pm on campus. If you know of anyone interested in joining ACA mid-year, please share this LINK to register for the meeting and share the attached flier on your social media.

Remember to check the calendar on our website often! AllianceCharterAcademy.org

Thank you for being part of the ACA family, and have a wonderful weekend!

Go Eagles,

Shelly Smith
