Director's Letter September 20, 2024

Dear ACA Community,

I’m going to dive right in with a great report from our ES staff…our middle and high school students are off to a really phenomenal start this year! Great enthusiasm for learning, participation in classes, follow-through on homework, and care for each other were all mentioned at recent meetings and in staff conversations. Just three weeks in and so many good comments. Let’s keep that positive momentum going, and thank you, students, for being amazing!

Continuing a fun tradition from last year, PTO pulled off their first ‘Random’ day of the school year with ‘Rice Krispie Treat Day’ on Wednesday! Everyone got Rice Krispie Treats at lunchtime for absolutely no reason at all! Our PTO really knows how to make things fun and pull off surprises. Thank you PTO!

Thank you to Lori Rux of ACA’s staff Sunshine Committee for arranging a lovely staff meet-up at the Swan Island Dahlia Farm this afternoon. It was a beautiful day with very good company!

ACA’s 5th grade students have an exciting opportunity again this fall to get creative while increasing their awareness of the risks of substance use. The group Oregon City Together invites you and your 5th-grade students to participate in OCT's Annual Halloween Harvest Poster Celebration! Click on the blue link to learn more about the contest and rules. Art supplies for the contest can be picked up in Ms. Snyder’s office. ACA students have won this contest in the past, so good luck everyone!

As mentioned last week, we have scheduled our talented photographer and ACA parent Stephanie Young to take student photos on October 15th and 16th. To make the process run smoothly, we need some parent volunteers to help manage student sign-ins. Please sign up at the LINK here. Remember, we ask for 30 hours of volunteer time per family and this is a fun way to log some time! (The Volunteer Log book is in the cafeteria near the PTO Coffee Corner desk.)

The announcement from PTO that we have been looking forward to is here! Pizza Thursdays are back! If you are new to ACA, PTO sells Costco pizza by the slice on Thursdays. In order for PTO to know how much pizza to buy, we fill out pre-order forms earlier in the week. Pizza Pre-Orders can be made on the following form as well as in person at the PTO desk. (order cutoff for the first week is Tues. 10/1 at 4pm): PIZZA ORDERS

And in order to have pizza sales, PTO needs volunteer cashiers and servers. You are at ACA at lunchtime anyway, right? Please step up and help PTO by signing up here: PIZZA VOLUNTEERS This is another easy way to log your 30 hours!

We are looking for a Volunteer to serve as ACA’s Field Trip Coordinator. It’s a fun task that involves identifying places and events for ACA families to visit, arranging group tours and tickets, and letting me know what’s coming up so everyone who wants to join is invited. Let me know if this is something that you would enjoy taking on!

Gentle Rule Reminder(s): ACA has a dress code which all students and parents should be aware of. Please refresh your memory HERE. Phone calls to come pick up your student will be made if necessary.

And a follow-up to last week’s request that we be mindful of not blocking mailboxes and driveways…please don’t block the garbage collector’s access to garbage cans on the streets and sidewalks. I’m afraid that unhappy neighbors may call for cars to be towed, and we don’t want that at all!

A reminder that the deadline for club proposals is September 30, so there is still time to fill out a Club Request form! Any student who is interested in proposing a club for this school year should contact their ES to get the application form. Clubs provide students the opportunity to be involved in an interest based group, allowing them a space to share their hobbies and interests in a low stakes environment. Students need to find a sponsor for their club (staff or parent). Clubs will be held Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons at 3:30, Lunchtime clubs can be any day of the week. Friday clubs are also welcome.

Our next Enrollment Information Meeting will be held on October 8th at 6:00pm on campus. If you know of anyone interested in joining ACA mid-year, please share this LINK to register for the meeting.

Remember to check the calendar on our website often! AllianceCharterAcademy.org

Thank you for being part of the ACA family, and have a wonderful weekend!

Go Eagles,

Shelly Smith
