Director's Letter January 24, 2025

Dear ACA Community,

I’d like to start by thanking everyone, staff, students, parents, and members of the community, for taking part in our recent Needs Assessment surveys. We had 85% of our staff, 187 students, and 122 parents respond. This is an excellent representative sampling of ACA. As a next step in the process, I will be emailing or phoning some of you with a few ‘tie-breaker’ questions. The survey responses will help drive the budget, schedule, and mission priorities. We’re all in this together!

On that subject, the 2025-26 Finance Committee has begun meeting to start the budget process for next year. We have a great group of volunteers who have varied and valuable financial experience. Thank you, Finance Committee, for giving generously of your time to ACA!

Our Leadership Club students have been VERY busy lately planning fun events for our staff and students. On Tuesday they held a Staff & Student Chess Tournament after classes. All ages participated and it was very fun! Thank you, Leadership!

Mr. Toth’s Woodworking classes have been ‘hammering away’ on their projects for a full semester now! They are making beautiful and functional items down in room 105. Wood is an expensive commodity, so the classes are looking for donations. Please see the flyer below for what is needed and how you can contribute to our woodworkers!

The high school Winter Formal is planned for Friday, February 7, from 6:00-8:30pm. Tickets are available in the office for $5 presale or $10 at the door. This dance is for 9-12 grade students and 8th grade students who are invited. If you have questions, find a member of Student Leadership. They’ll be happy to help!

Also, if you are planning to attend ACA’s Pool Party, be sure to sign up on Monday! It’s planned for January 31st 10:00 to 11:00 am at the Oregon City Pool. Admission is $3 per person. We need 25 more swimmers to make this exclusive ACA pool rental happen!

Gentle rule reminder:  Please keep in mind that students are not to use AI for assignments. All writing must be a student’s own.

Academic Consequences

  • Reduced credit or loss of credit for the assignment (as outlined by class syllabus and/or teacher discretion)

  • Students may need to demonstrate further learning possibly through completing an alternate assignment

  • Repeated incidents or majors infractions may result in a loss of credit for the class

Behavioral Consequences

  • Parent/Guardian will be informed. At second offence, a parent will be required to attend class with the student.

  • Incident may be noted on a student’s academic record

  • A student may be ineligible to participate in extracurricular activities or after school events

And from our wonderful PTO:

Please consider being a PTO Officer next year! Openings and a short application can be viewed on our website: https://www.aca-pto.com/get-involved

A gentle reminder from the PTO:    We really dislike turning people away because we've sold out of pizza. Orders can be placed using the QR code, on our website, OR in person at the PTO desk.

Signup for pizza volunteers, who make Thursdays a highlight for our students. Thank you!

Remember to check the calendar on our website often, AllianceCharterAcademy.org and don’t forget to log your Volunteer hours here Volunteer Time Log.

Have a wonderful weekend, and thank you for being part of the ACA family!

Go Eagles,

Shelly Smith
