Dear ACA Community,
Our great year just keeps getting better, thanks to everyone who comes together to make ACA the happy place to be! With just two weeks on campus this month, events are back to back. I have lots to report about the great week we are wrapping up and many fun plans to share that are coming up next week.
Monday, ACA’s Sunshine Committee hosted a lovely staff Holiday party after school. The gym was transformed into a charming venue with linens, fresh greenery, lit candles, beautiful live music performed by ACA student Mel, a competitive Holiday game hosted by Mrs. Filippello, and a delicious meal home cooked by our own Mrs. Mixer-Cantrell. Thank you Sunshine Committee and these wonderful parent and student volunteers who helped with setup and cleanup: Rachelle Smythe and family, Mirian Hickman and family, Jen Walker and family, Ashley Hickman and family, MyLiege Hawkins and family-Elle Hawkins, Melody Messinger and family-Gabe and Haylie Messinger, Mel Kirwan, Jenny Pearson and family, Haven and Wake Crum.
All week long our student musicians and singers have been holding concert rehearsals in the gym, getting ready for this weekend’s concerts. Prepare yourselves to be impressed! Mrs. Trobaugh, Mr. Edson, Mrs. Johnson, Mr. Lute, and Ms. McNeil go above and beyond to teach and lead our kids. There are three concerts and times are listed below. Homemade concessions and roses will be available for sale. Thank you, students, for your hard work, practice, and for sharing your talents, and thank you parents, for supporting your students!
Looking to next week, our Student Government Club has planned a Winter Spirit Week for next week. Here are the daily themes:
Monday- Pajama Day
Tuesday- Neon Day
Wednesday- Ugly Festive Sweater Day
Thursday- Decade Day
And our K-5 Education Specialists are putting together a cozy movie morning on Wednesday at 9:30 for our elementary students. Join us in the cafeteria for a movie (The Snowy Day) and hot cocoa. If you are planning to attend, please sign up here Snowy Day sign up so we know how much cocoa to make. Thank you to our elementary ES team!
Who likes a fun challenge? There will be monthly reading and writing challenges posted on the bulletin board outside room 106 downstairs and there will be prizes! Make your way down to 106 to find out the specifics each month. Thank you to Mrs. Carruthers and Mrs. B!
Our most pressing volunteer need at this time is for the Holiday Bazaar coming up on Friday, December 13 and Saturday, December 14. Mrs. Johnson and the PTO organize a super fun and festive event and it takes lots of friendly helpers to pull it off. Tasks are easy and shifts are short, so please jump in and help by signing up HERE. We all benefit from the funds raised at the Holiday Bazaar!
Hannah Schmidt, Community Engagement Specialist for Oregon City, has invited ACA students to participate in this years’ “If I Were Mayor…” Contest. This contest is for students enrolled in 4th – 12th grade for the 2024-25 academic year and is put on at the state level by the Oregon Mayors Association. Oregon City will be hosting their second local contest for students who reside within Oregon City or attend a school within the Oregon City School District. Just like last year, this contest will be judged by the Oregon City Mayor and the Oregon City Youth Advisory Commission. Here is a link that leads to the City’s website with more detailed information about the contest: www.orcity.org/If-I-Were-Mayor.
The PTO pulled off another surprise theme day on Wednesday. It was National Cookie Day and there were free cookies for all! We love our PTO! Thank you, PTO, for continuing to bring the joy to our building. You are the best!
